Thinking ahead for 2024
24/01/2024
During 2024 Great Yarmouth town centre will see the further redevelopment of the Market Place with improvements of new seating, trees, paving etc which will help to support the new covered market and its growing number of traders which offer a wide choice of good, services and food; the addition of tables and chairs in the canopy area encourages use of the wide choice of hot food stalls already on offer.
Whilst the extended public realm works makes planning major events difficult the Town Centre Partnership will continue to promote small events and trails around the town centre, particularly during school holidays. The Easter Fair will return following the Bank Holiday weekend and the Out There Festival will take up its new dates at the end of May, there is also a Tallship visit planned for the beginning of June and the Great Yarmouth Art Festival will now take place during the last week of September.
Perhaps the most anticipated ‘event’ this year will be the opening of The Place as the new library and University learning centre in the former Palmers department store. This is forecasted to increase town centre footfall by bringing students and library users into the town centre. In the meantime we can only hope that domestic energy costs and inflation can be reduced and people have more money in their pockets to support town centre businesses. And in a year that has both a Euro’s football tournament and an Olympics, businesses will be looking to celebrate these with their own events and offers.
